oh yesss

Watched it last night, and 24 hours later I’m still under its influence. I don’t care what your “tastes” in movies are, you need to watch it asap. You can find it on youtube, but to do it justice you should download a torrent or even buy the DVD from Criterion. After you’re done watching it you can click here

There’s plenty of resources covering this film available on the internet, but I think you need no prior knowledge to fully appreciate it – actually you’re probably better off not knowing what to expect. Now that you’ve seen it (I’m assuming you’re not a filthy (more)-clicking liar), you might want to read about the real Trial of Joan of Arc, or check out Roger Ebert’s review, or this one.

The Criterion DVD is supposed to have some brilliant choral music made especially for the film, but I watched it without sound and appreciated the intimacy. Still I’d really like to hear the soundtrack, Richard Einhorn’s Voices of Light – maybe next time :)

Carl Th. Dreyer’s Passion of Joan of Arc I think is the most genuinely unique and touching picture I’ve seen yet, and I intend to watch his other major works as soon as I can.

UPDATE July 30th: Here’s a great dissection of the film, with screenshots. Very interesting. Even more reviews here.
